Galaxy Gear support coming to three new phones


Soon you won’t need a brand new device if you want to use Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch. While the watch only shipped with support for the just-released Galaxy Note 3 phone and Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition tablet, Samsung is expanding compatibility to older devices via a “Premium Suite” software update. This will bring Gear support to the Galaxy S 4, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III.

Samsung says the Premium Suite update will bring Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) to the phones, along with features introduced on the Galaxy S 4 such as Easy Mode, Multi Window, and additional camera options. The update also includes Safe (Samsung for Enterprise), as well as Knox, which uses partitioned software to increase consumer and enterprise security.
