Mark Gillett, a corporate VP of Microsoft’s(s msft) Skype unit, is leaving the software giant to return to Silver Lake Partners, where he will succeed Charles Giancarlo as chief of value creation, according to a statement.
This is a return trip for Gillett, who first joined Silver Lake in 2009 and helped lead its investment in Skype which he then joined as chief transformation officer. He also helped integrate Skype into Microsoft when it was acquired for $8.5 billion in 2011.
At Microsoft, Gillett was responsible for both Skype and Lync, the company’s video conferencing/instant messaging product.
Silver Lake, a prominent private equity company, has engineered some very big deals including Dell’s(s dell) recent transition from public to private company.
